One of the most common questions I get from clients who I’ve set up on Social Media is who to follow.
If this is a question you have too, read on….
I’m going to give you 2 simple things to do to begin following profiles.
2 Simple things you can start today and build on
Who do you want to speak to?
Imagine you are going to a networking event. There is going to be a whole room of people and you won't have time to speak to everyone. What do you do? Get the list of attendees and prioritise who you want to make sure you see in the finite time you have.
Think of Instagram as a worldwide networking room in which all of your potential suppliers, collaborators and customers are hanging out and BONUS you don't have a finite time to get around them.
Next, follow people you know in real life. These might be suppliers, customers or (and don't be scared of this) competitors and others operating in your industry.
Who do they follow? You may find profiles you're interested in following too.
Follow hashtags which are relevant to your business and industry. You will then see posts from a range of profiles who are using that hashtag.
For example, a kitchen design company might follow hashtags such as #kitchendesign #homedesign or a gym might follow #fitness #Crossfit #health.
There is no limit to the number of hashtags you can follow so don't worry that you have to be perfect! Just get going and discovering accounts which are useful and of interest to your business.
